The report 'Growing Up Queer' has found that 16 per cent of young people who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Trans, Intersex or Queer (LGBTIQ) have attempted suicide.

 

Furthermore, 33 per cent have harmed themselves as a result of widespread homophobic and transphobic harassment and violence in Australian society.

 

Online services are leading the way in supporting young queer Australians, with the report showing 85 per cent of young people are using the internet to explore their sexual or gender identity on sites like Minus18, Tumblr, Facebook and YouTube.
